Asphalt mixture modification with a plastomeric compound containing recycled plastic: laboratory and field investigation

چکیده
Abstract The use of recycled plastic in asphalt pavements represents a sustainable and economic choice which, if correctly designed, could significantly improve the resistance against typical distresses flexible pavements. For this reason, paper aims at evaluating mechanical properties two mixtures modified with plastomeric compounds through dry method, by comparing their results those obtained for reference mixture Styrene–Butadiene–Styrene (SBS) polymers. One consisted polymers, whereas other was made graphene. experimental program included laboratory tests on shear gyratory compacted specimens cores extracted from real-scale field trial. showed that stiffness, fatigue rutting polymeric compound were comparable to mixture. Finally, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) campaign, performed after one year service life pavement, reduced structural response sections constructed respect because compaction issues possible interlayer de-bonding effects.

متن کاملModification of the Properties of Warm Mix Asphalt Using Recycled Plastic Bottles
Construction of flexible pavements with hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures consumes huge energy which impacts the resources and the environment of the world. Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) is an effective alternative as they produced with lower mixing and compaction temperature than those used in HMA production. This technology decreases energy consumption, saves money, and reducing the environmental pollu...
متن کاملCharacterization and Micromechanical Investigation of Recycled Asphalt Shingle Binder Blends
The sustainability movement has established a firm foothold in the Civil Engineering profession. The use of recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) is the latest development in the world of asphalt pavement sustainability. The relative abundance of tear-off shingles and their high asphalt content is driving RAS usage in highway and airfield pavements. However, the ultimate objective of any pavement sys...
متن کاملMicrostructural Analysis and Rheological Modeling of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Recycled Asphalt Materials
The use of recycled materials in pavement construction has seen, over the years, a significant increase closely associated with substantial economic and environmental benefits. During the past decades, many transportation agencies have evaluated the effect of adding Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), and, more recently, Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) on the performance of asphalt pavement, whil...
متن کاملInternal Structure Features of Asphalt Mixture for Field Samples
Asphalt mixture is heterogeneous in nature; therefore, macroscopic parameters alone cannot describe the mechanical behavior of the mixture. In recent years, the arrangement of the aggregate particles in terms of spatial and directional distributions, and contact points are considered as the internal structure of asphalt. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the microstructural chara...
